TRINITY, Texas (KTRE) - A high school student is dead and a middle school student was airlifted for medical care following a car crash over the weekend, according to Trinity Independent School District.
Texas DPS said the crash happened around 4:56 p.m. Saturday, on Pinecrest Road in Trinity County, just south of Goober Gap Road.
According to DPS, the vehicle was driving north at an unsafe speeds for the condition of the roadway, left the roadway on the left side, struck a concrete culvert and overturned.
The driver was identified as a 17-year-old male and was pronounced dead on the scene while the passenger, a 13-year-old female, was flown to a hospital with possibly life-threatening injuries.
The identities of the two students have not been released.
The district said it is working to provide support to both students and staff on Monday.
“We are currently working to develop a comprehensive plan to support both students and staff on Monday. As soon as those details are finalized, we will share them with you,” said John Kaufman, Ed D, superintendent of Trinity ISD.
