Coroner IDs Elysian Fields junior fatally shot near Clyde Fant

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - On Feb. 18, two shootings occurred during the Krewe of Gemini parade, leaving one person dead. According to Shreveport city leaders, Shreveport police are investigating two shootings that happened while the parade was going on. It happened on Oden Street and Clyde Fant Memorial Parkway Service Road near the Magnolia School of Excellence. At 5:45 p.m., police responded to a shooting in the 2200 block of Clyde Fant Memorial Parkway. When officers arrived to investigate, they learned that Elysian Fields High junior Kip Lewis, 17, of Marshall, Texas, was shot during the parade. He was transported to a Shreveport hospital, where he died at 6:17 p.m. The Caddo coroner’s office said an autopsy has been ordered. This investigation is ongoing. Elysian Fields ISD, in a Facebook post posted Sunday, said counselors will be on campus Tuesday to help students. The district’s schools are closed Monday for Presidents Day. The school district’s post identifies Lewis as the brother of Elysian Fields High graduates Makenna and Hannah and the son of Bradley Lewis, who serves on the EFISD Board of Trustees, and Lorie Lewis, who has been a longtime second-grade teacher at Elysian Fields Elementary School. “We ask that you please join us in surrounding the Lewis family with love and prayers as we commit to standing with them through this most difficult time,” the post reads.
