LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - The City of Lufkin announced Thursday the permanent closure of Powell Street behind Stringer’s Lufkin Bar-B-Que. The closure is effective immediately. City Communications Director Jessica Pebsworth said the decision follows a request made several months ago by the Stringer family, who approached the City about purchasing the Powell Street right-of-way as part of an expansion plan. The City Council approved this request during their regular meeting on June 18th. “We would like to thank everyone for their continued support,” said Robin Stringer.
