CHIRENO, Texas (KTRE) - The Chireno ISD Board of Trustees voted to call for an over $11 million bond election to build a new elementary school.
The unanimous vote was cast on Wednesday.
The school release said with the bond election, the average homeowner will continue to not have to pay school taxes, saying a homeowner has to have a home valued at greater than $175,000 before they are impacted by school taxes.
They said the tax impact on a $200,000 home will be less than $5 per month. The estimated tax rate for the build and bond plan is 29 cents.
The school said they hope to take advantage of mineral values while they are high, as they source about 65% of the school’s net taxable value.
Early voting for the bond election begins April 20 and will run through April 28 at the Chireno Community Center. Election day voting takes place on May 2.
