Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

Deputies with the Newton County Sheriff's Department reported on Saturday that a man had been arrested after leading officers on an early morning chase.

Officers said it began shortly after 4:00 in the morning when a deputy saw a Ford pickup truck run a stop sign at the intersection of Rusk and Court Streets in Newton.

Following a bizarre series of events, and a chase that was estimated to have exceeded 100 mile per hour, the pursuit finally ended on Highway 190 near the intersection of County Road 4002, where the driver who was later identified as Caiden Joseph Walker finally stopped and was taken finally taken into custody. However, officers said that as Walker was being placed into a police car, he ran again on foot, but soon captured.

Walker was transported to the Newton County Jail and charged with evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, search or transportation, and escape from custody.
