Charge dismissed for Joaquin woman in drowning of 6-year-old

GALVESTON, Texas (KLTV) - A Galveston County judge has dismissed a charge against a Joaquin woman in connection with the drowning of a 6-year-old at a hotel in Crystal Beach in 2024.

Silvia Maria Parra, 37, was first charged with criminally negligent homicide and booked into the Shelby County Jail in August last year following the drowning at Crystal Palace Hotel in June.

Parra was indicted after being suspected of allowing the child to enter the pool “knowing that he could not swim, that he did not have any flotation device, that the pool was dimly lit, and that he was not being supervised.”

A Galveston County judge dismissed the charge Monday, citing insufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
