Cell phones are now prohibited in Louisiana classrooms

Officials in Louisiana have decided the focus of schools in the Pelican State should be education and learning and to that end that have put the foot down on cellular phones in classrooms. While many school districts in Southeast Texas and across Texas debate whether to limit the use of school phones, Louisiana law prohibits student use of a cell phone within the school. All cell phones and smart watches must be stowed in lockers or powered off during instructional hours and are not allowed in the classroom. Governor Jeff Landry signed a bill in July banning students from having cell phones on their person. Senate Bill 207, authored by Senators Mizell, Edmonds, Henry, Jackson-Andrews, McMath, and Talbot says no students shall possess, on his person, an electronic telecommunication device throughout the instructional day. However, prior to the decision in the State Capitol of Baton Rouge, some schools in Louisiana had already began to prohibit cell phones.
