Car leaves road, hits tree and burns on the smith side of Beaumont

Police in Beaumont that a person died in a Monday evening crash on the south side of that city. Police and other emergency crews were dispatched to the location on Cardinal Drive near Martin Luther King Boulevard shortly before 11:00 when was reported that a vehicle had for some unknown reason, left the road hit a tree and burst into flames. Officer Carol Riley told our news partner KFDN News that the driver of a Chevy Traverse was traveling north when the car left the roadway, struck a tree in the grassy center median. Investigators haven't identified the victim and don't yet know if it's a man or woman due to the severity of the fire. Cardinal Drive North from FM 3514 to MLK, including the Highway 347 on-ramp northbound, was closed until early Tuesday morning. Police are hoping that forensic tests and other information obtained at the crash will help them identify the deceased.
