SHREVEPORT, La. -- A Caddo Parish sheriff's deputy and Blanchard police officer were injured Wednesday afternoon following a pursuit of a shoplifter that ended in a crash.
The deputy was taken to Willis Knighton North for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, and the Blanchard officer was taken to Ochsner LSU Health with moderate injuries.
The woman accused of leading the officers on the pursuit is in jail facing multiple charges.
The sheriff's office said the car chase started around 3 p.m. after Blanchard police got a call about a shoplifter at Elsie's Truck Stop on state Highway 1. The officer saw the woman, later identified as Elease Williams, as she was getting into a white SUV. He was dragged by her SUV while trying to stop her, the sheriff's office said.
Caddo deputies spotted Williams' SUV heading south and pursued her until she crashed into a deputy's car at the intersection with Interstate 49.
Williams, 46, was taken into custody without incident and taken to the Caddo Correctional Center. She was booked charges of aggravated second-degree battery, aggravated flight from an officer, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle upon a police officer and aggravated obstruction of a highway of commerce.
