Bunkie man arrested for attempted murder, arson

AVOYELLES PARISH, La. (KALB) - A Bunkie man has been arrested for setting fire to a house with someone inside, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFM). Jeffery Dixon, 46, was booked into the Avoyelles Parish Jail on January 30 on one count each of the following charges: attempted second-degree murder, aggravated arson, simple burglary and violation of a protective order. SFM said that the Bunkie Fire Department responded to the 300 block of S. Louisiana Avenue on January 30 around 7:15 p.m. in reference to a house fire. When firefighters arrived, they saw the home’s back porch on fire and one resident safely outside. The fire was put out quickly, but SFM deputies determined the fire was intentionally set. Dixon was identified as a suspect and located just a few houses away.
