Buna man sentenced to 33 years in federal prison

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

A Buna man has received a very lengthy federal prison sentence following his conviction on weapon and drug charges.

Leotis Cornelius McMahon, 48, was convicted on charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute. U.S. District Judge Marcia Crone then handed down a 33year sentence. McMahon will be 81-years-old when he is released.

Federal prosecutors said McMahon had been under surveillance by law enforcement, and a January 5th, 2024 traffic stop in Lumberton revealed a large amount of methamphetamine in his vehicle, and a search warrant at his house turned up material used in the distribution of drugs along with four guns – one of which was stolen. McMahon was a previously convicted felon and was not allowed to own or be in possession of a gun.
