Body of missing boater found on Sabine River

WOOD COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - Tragedy on an East Texas waterway, as a missing East Texas boater has been found deceased on the Sabine River by game wardens. The search began late Monday near Hwy 14 at the Sabine River at the Smith County-Wood County line. According to investigators, information came to Upshur County authorities that a boater who had left from a Wood County location along the Sabine River Monday, did not make it to a destination in Upshur County. “The boater’s family advised that he did not arrive at the destination that he had told them where he was planning to be,” said game warden Todd Long. Given river conditions. there was immediate concern. “Right now the river is way out of its banks, under flood conditions. We located the boater’s vessel along the edge of the river,” Long says.
