Word came Wednesday morning that Bob Sealy, the owner of Sealy Outdoors and founder of the Big Bass Splash, has died at the age of 75. Sealy was a legend in the fishing world. He started Big Bass Splash in 1984 at Lake Sam Rayburn, and in recent years he held Big Bass Splash events on other lakes. Big Bass Splash grew to be the largest amateur fishing tournament in the world and drew in amateur anglers from many different countries. Over the course of 40 years Sealy handed out millions of dollars in cash prizes, along with new bass boats, pickup trucks, and even travel trailers to amateur anglers.

Big Bass Splash issued the following statement:

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved founder, Mr. Bob Sealy. A father, grandfather, and a friend to all, Bob was passionate about delivering the very best to anglers and touched countless lives through his decades of unwavering dedication and visionary leadership. His legacy and spirit will forever be deeply etched in our hearts and continue to be our guiding light. Bob's contributions have left an indelible mark on our lives. He was more than a business leader; he was a mentor and a beacon of how to love and serve others. Bob faced his battle with cancer with remarkable strength and courage. As we mourn this tremendous loss, we kindly ask for privacy as we navigate the next steps to honor his legacy. Your understanding and support during this difficult time mean the world to us.
