ORANGE, Texas (KPLC) - A person died on Tuesday evening after a recreational boat crashed into a commercial barge on the Sabine River.
Texas news stations are reporting that shortly after 6:30 p.m. on July 29, officials responded to the boating accident halfway between Cow Bayou and Adams Bayou in Orange County, Texas.
Officials say they learned a 25-foot bay boat crashed into the front of a commercial barge as it traveled along the waterway, and the driver of the bay boat, its only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Game Wardens, and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the accident.
The U.S. Coast Guard will lead the investigation because the crash involved a commercial vessel.
The identity of the deceased boater has not been released, according to reports.
