Power was lost in East Jasper on Wednesday afternoon when an 18-wheeled tractor trailer truck knocked down utility lines stretching for one block. It happened shortly before 4:00 on Lela Street between Graham and Neyland Streets near the dispatch center of the Jasper County Sheriff's Department.
The truck was driven by 23-year-old Damien Doffing of Conroe and was owned by Werner Enterprises in Nebraska.
Jasper Police investigated and kept people away from the area while Jasper firefighters stood by at the scene due to live wires being on the ground.
Meanwhile, crews from the city electrical department immediately went to work replacing the broken pole, remounting a transformer, and re-stringing the utility lines in order to restore service to the affected area.
The operation of the Jasper County Sheriff's Department dispatch center of the jail and the Jasper County Jail continued with both facilities going to emergency standby generators.
