Beaumont Police identify suspect....make arrest in Sunday morning crash that killed girl

Beaumont Police tell KFDM/Fox 4 the 14-year-old driver of a stolen car that crashed against a pillar at Major Drive and Interstate io, killing a teenage girl, is facing a znd degree felony Manslaughter charge. However, they have not released the name of the suspect due to his age. Special Crimes Detectives secured a Directive to Apprehend the male teenager from Beaumont on Monday. Beaumont Police authorized releasing the name of the 13-year-old who died. They identify her as Theresa Franklin. It began at about 3:4o a.m. Sunday, November 20, when officers responded to the 3100 block of Ethan Symone Street on an auto burglary in progress call. That's just south of Washington Boulevard, near Blossom Drive. Officers located the suspects fleeing the scene in a 2O23 Silver Hyundai. The driver fled to the area of Major Drive and Interstate io, where the driver lost control and struck a concrete pillar. Four people inside the car ran away. Officers were able to catch two juveniles and later located the two others after what police call a lengthy search. Police have identified all four juveniles. They found the body of the 1.3-year-old girl, Theresa Franklin, inside the car. Justice of the Peace Ben Collins Sr. has ordered an autopsy. Judge Collins says she attended MLK Middle School. The car was reported stolen by Nederland Police at 3:35 a.m. Sunday. Officers are in the early stages of the investigation and still taking witness statements.
