GREGG COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A man remains at large Monday evening after allegedly attempting to grab a Gregg County deputy’s gun during a scuffle.
According to Gregg County Chief Deputy Craig Harrington, Austin Richert, 23, who is a known felon with multiple felony warrants, ran from deputies both in a vehicle and on foot Monday.
Deputies then encountered him in the woods around 6 p.m. near Goforth Road and Old 135. Harrington said a scuffle ensued and Richert attempted to grab the deputy’s gun. The deputy received minor injuries from the scuffle and was treated at the scene.
A perimeter was set up in the area, but Richert was not found. The Kilgore Police Department and Gregg County ESD 2 also assisted.
Harrington asks anyone with information to contact the Gregg County Sheriff’s Office or Gregg County Crimestoppers.
Richert is described to be a white male.
