An arrest has been made in Galveston County for a murder case that occurred early Easter Sunday morning following a trail ride in Jefferson County. Javoris Porter, 30, of Houston, was shot to death at the Laday Arena in the Cheek Community. Despite hundreds of people being present, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department said they received no cooperation or information from the witnesses. On Tuesday morning, 25-year-old John “JJ” Gutierrez was arrested at his home in Hitchcock, and he has now been charged with Murder and his bond has been set at $1 million. Jefferson County investigators say the killing occurred when Porter tried to break up a fight involving two women from Galveston County. Additionally, a 37-year-old man, who has not been identified, was shot in the leg at approximately the same time by someone else, but investigators say it was unrelated to the murder of Porter. That man recovered following hospital treatment. Meanwhile, investigators say they are now looking at criminal charges against those who intentionally withheld information, thus obstructing and delaying the murder investigation.
