KTRE 9 News in Lufkin is reporting that an Angelina County deputy shot and killed a man after he pulled a gun on the deputy. It happened Wednesday morning as deputies were searching for 50-year-old John Franklin Carter, of Diboll.
Carter had arrest warrants after he nearly strangled his girlfriend to death and also cut a man with a knife as he was trying to help the girl a few days ago.
The report said deputies spotted Carter driving just north of Lufkin and pulled him over. According to the report, Carter got out of the vehicle with a gun and refused to drop it, so a deputy opened fire and killed him.
Carter had been on federal supervised release after serving a prison term for Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance.
