CARTHAGE, Texas - Due to the recent heavy rain, low-lying areas of Shelby County, Panola County, and DeSoto Parish face potentially historic flooding. Residents have been told to be aware of their surroundings as events may change quickly and be prepared to evacuate if necessary. Wednesday night, the Texas Emergency Management Agency issued a statement regarding flooding in the Sabine River. It said upstream rainfall is the source of the threat. The primary areas of concern include locations along and near the Sabine River and its tributaries. Remember, if you encounter flooded roads, turn around, don`t drown.
Areas of concern include:
- All areas along the Sabine River and its tributaries north of Logansport
- Those living along Martin Creek and its tributaries in the Tatum area
- County Road 224 along Irons Bayou
- County Road 210 along Irons Bayou
- US Hwy. 59 N. along Irons Bayou
- The area south of County Road 2151 and North of St. Hwy. 149
- County Road 307 along Jackson Creek
- County Roads 3171 and 3172
- Private Roads 848 and 8481 and County Road 448
- Low-lying areas on County Roads 127 and 129 along Brushy Creek
- All residences adjoining Dixie Lake and County Roads 403 and 4034
