A third suspect has been arrested in connection with the January 11th shooting in Newton that left Asia Scott, 22, of DeRidder dead.

Newton Police Chief Will Jackson said Monday that Dameyen Demarcus Cooper, 25, of Jasper was taken into custody on Sunday evening following a routine traffic stop by Jasper Police.

Cooper's arrest is the result of warrant charging him with murder in connection with Scott that is alleged to have occurred on Kerr Street, following an altercation or incident at a spot commonly known as "The Hill".

Cooper's arrest follows the arrests of Havard Tevin Sells, 27, of Jasper and Dionte Johnson, 29, of Newton that occurred shortly after the incident had occurred. However, at that time, Chief Jackson said that at least one more person might be arrested as he and others continued to investigate the incident.

In addition to being charged with Murder, Cooper has also reportedly been accused of the Unlawful Carry of a Weapon, and Public Intoxication as the result of the traffic stop here in Jasper.

Cooper is being held at the Jasper County Jail where bond on the charge of Murder has been denied. However, bond on the Unlawful Carry of a Weapon was set at $10,000. Bond has not been set on the charge of Public Intoxication.

Sells and Johnson are out of jail after each making arrangements to post $750,000 in jail.
