Lumberton Police and Texas Parks & Wildlife Game Wardens had to deal with an alligator that was found late Tuesday afternoon. Lumberton Police Chief Danny Sullins said the approximately 6 foot long gator was next to a fence by Lumberton Early Childhood Center on Highway 96. Fortunately, the business was already closed and there were no children around. Sullins said the gator fled under a nearby culvert, so Lumberton firefighters began spraying water into one side in an attempt to flush the gator out while officers stood by with a catch-pol on the other end. Once it was out, police and game wardens wrangled the reptile into custody and it was then transported and released in a more suitable environment away from people.
