SAN AUGUSTINE COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - A homeless man is behind bars after San Augustine deputies say he broke into a home his sister once lived and set fire to the residence.
Timothy James Seevers, 54, was held Wednesday at the San Augustine Jail on bonds totaling $275,000 for warrants charging him with burglary of a habitation, arson of a habitation intending to cause damage and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, according to jail records.
He is also being held without bond on a parole violation detainer out of Ohio, according to jail records.
On Dec. 19, 2025, San Augustine County deputies responded to a home burglarized and on fire in the 200 block of County Road 4790 in San Augustine County after a neighbor noticed smoke emanating from the home, according to an affidavit.
After the neighbor called the homeowner, who was in Montgomery County at the time, the homeowner logged into a Ring camera and watched a male with a shaggy blonde beard and hair stealing things inside his home, according to the affidavit.
The homeowner provided deputies with a copy of the video and a photograph of the unidentified man, who appeared to be carrying a rifle with a red camo-style sling, according to the affidavit.
A Ring camera positioned in the living home of the home showed a man matching the homeowner’s description stealing items before shadows of flames appeared from the residence and a smoke alarm went off, according to the affidavit.
A picture of the unidentified man was posted on social media, leading to multiple daily tips that a man matching the description was seen not far from County Road 4790, according to the affidavit.
On Jan. 3, San Augustine County deputies eventually found the man, later identified as Seevers, near the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Nacogdoches, where he was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to an affidavit.
During a jailhouse interview, Seevers admitted that he broke into the home and stole food and a fishing rod; however, he denied setting the fire, according to an affidavit.
Deputies also discovered that Seevers’s sister previously lived at the property and that she had sold the mobile home to the current homeowner, according to an affidavit.
Charged with multiple felonies, Seevers could face between five to 99 years in prison and a possible fine.
