LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) - More details have come to light in connection with a Gregg County jailer accused of using an inmate’s debit card to make Amazon purchases.
On Jan. 27, a deputy said he learned of a complaint from an inmate claiming a jail employee was using her debit card without consent. The report included a screenshot that showed a $231.88 purchase from Amazon, according to an arrest affidavit.
In an interview, the inmate claimed jailer Shalisha Denai Mungia, 22, of Longview, had used the debit card with permission in the past to order food. But, the inmate said they did not give permission for the larger purchase and only noticed it when they attempted to fund their inmate phone account, and the transaction failed due to low funds. The inmate said they cancelled the card after noticing the purchase.
During investigation, authorities found that the inmate’s card had been added to Mungia’s Amazon account on Oct. 23, 2024, which matched the date of the contentious purchase. The address entered with the card, however, showed to be Mungia’s.
Mungia was booked into the Gregg County Jail on March 28 on a charge of credit card or debit card abuse. She posted $1,500 bond and was released later the same day.
