JENNINGS, La. (KPLC) - A three-vehicle crash on I-10E in Jennings this week claimed the life of an Acadia Parish man, according to Louisiana State Police.
The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday (June 30), and killed Dana Ortego, 54, of Branch, LSP said.
Ortego was driving behind a Chevy Tahoe in the left lane, LSP said. Traffic began to slow due to an object in the road, and the Tahoe braked suddenly. Ortego tried to avoid the SUV, but struck it before entering the right lane.
For reasons still under investigation, Ortego entered the path of a commercial motor vehicle and was rear-ended, according to LSP. The crash sent Ortego off the road and into a treeline.
Ortego, who was improperly restrained, died at the scene, LSP said.
State police said the crash remains under investigation.
