KFDM in Beaumont is reporting that a 7-year-old boy has died from his injuries he received in an auto accident that occurred early Saturday morning on College Street.
Police said the accident occurred shortly after 3:00 when the driver of the car the child was in sped away from the intersection College Street and Interstate 10, crossed the concrete median and slammed head-on into a sport utility vehicle.
Unfortunately, police also reported that the child was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Witnesses told investigators the Buick which was driven by 46 year old Leosha Livings suddenly accelerated at a high rate of speed, crossed the concrete median, entered the opposing lanes of traffic, and crashed head-on into a Ford Expedition traveling in the opposite direction.
Both Livings and the child were transported to a local hospital. However, the child Because of the severity of the child's injuries, the child was later airlifted to a Houston-area medical facility for advanced treatment where he unfortunately died on Sunday.
Police said Livings remains in critical but stable condition.
The driver of the Ford Expedition suffered minor injuries, was treated at a hospital and later released.
