TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - A multi-vehicle wreck involving an overturned tanker truck leaking fuel shut down U.S. 69 near Lindale for several hours Thursday morning. According to Lindale Police Department, at around 6 a.m. Thursday, the wreck occurred between South Street and Eagle Spirit Dr. on U.S. 69. Authorities shut down the scene to clear debris and diesel fuel spilling from the tanker truck involved. Tyler Fire Department is assisting Lindale agencies with the incident. In a later interview, Lindale Police Captain Brent Chambers explained the incident further. According to the captain, four people including the tanker driver were taken to nearby hospitals. All four are expected to recover, though Chambers could not provide further information on their conditions. Two of the injured people had to be extracted from a vehicle using the Jaws of Life tool. The tanker was carrying around 8,000 gallons worth of diesel fuel, Chambers said, and spilled an estimated 5,000 gallons. According to the captain, officials are attempting to prevent the fuel from getting into a nearby lake, though he noted that the lake is not a drinking water supply. U.S. 69 re-opened after noon. Responding authorities included Lindale PD, Lindale Fire, Tyler Fire, Smith County ESD2, and LoneStar HAZMAT.
