The DeRidder Police Department has announced that eight school students, ranging in age from 13 to 18, have been charged with nine crimes.
Police say they began an investigation on Monday after a student was caught with a vaping device in a school bus, and they also found out that the student had a gun in the school which he was delivering to another student.
According to police, they also discovered that multiple students were engaging in organized criminal activity, which included a plan to attack another group of juveniles.
Police say they executed a search warrant at a home where the students hang out and in the home they found 27 firearms. Additionally, police said the owner of the home had a warrant for Possession of a Firearm, which he was not allowed to do because he was a convicted felon for domestic abuse and assault.
The students were charged with the following crimes:
~ Theft of a Firearm
~ Carrying a Firearm on Campus
~ Criminal Conspiracy to Possess a Firearm on Campus
~ Illegal Carrying of Weapons
~ Home Invasion Robbery
~ Aggravated Assault
~ Simple Assault
~ Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Simple Assault
~ Underage Possession of Vaping Device & Tobacco
