TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - First responders have been sent to the scene of a stairwell collapse on the UT Tyler campus on Monday. Three ambulances and two fire engines were called out at about 12:30 p.m. after receiving a report that a stairwell between the Hudnall-Pirtle-Roosth Building and Stewart Hall at UT Tyler had collapsed. Three people were working on the landing of the stairwell as part of a planned demolition when the collapse took place, Deputy Fire Marshal Jay McClung said. Three people have been hurt, with one taken to a hospital, McClung said. He said the other two were treated on scene and released. All injuries were non-life-threatening. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, most students are not on campus at this time. The structural integrity of the two buildings involved was unaffected, according to a university spokesperson.
