MANY, La. – Two women who were shopping the Sale on the Trail event in Sabine Parish Saturday morning were injured when they were struck by a motorist while crossing the highway.
The Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office described their injuries as serious. One was flown to a hospital, while the other was taken to Sabine Medical Center.
It happened around 10 a.m. on state Highway 6 in front of the Sabine Parish Tourism Commission office west of Many. According to a post on the commission’s Facebook page, the two women were shopping with vendors set up at the commission’s office.
Following the accident, all vendor booths at the commission were shut down and the office was closed.
“It is with utmost importance that we sincerely beg of everyone traveling on the roads and crossing the roads during Sale on the Trail to practice using extreme caution so that further accidents may be avoided,” the commission said in its post.
The sheriff’s office also said the public should be mindful of slow-moving vehicles and pedestrians who because of the Sale on the Trail activity.
The driver who hit the women stayed on the scene.
Louisiana State Police Troop E is investigating.
