TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - One person died in a major crash on Hwy 31 East Tuesday evening. The wreck occurred just after 6 p.m. in the 3000 block of Hwy 31 East. This is just east of SSE Loop 323. DPS Sgt. Adam Albritton confirmed that one person was killed in the wreck. That person has not been publicly identified. The wreck was between a white pickup and a passenger sedan, and there was an entrapment in one of the vehicles, according to Smith County ESD2 PIO Nikki Simmons. Chapel Hill and Jackson Heights VFDs responded to the scene, as well as Texas DPS and Smith County ESD2. Both eastbound and westbound traffic were shut down for several hours, but as of 9 p.m. had reopened.
