As thunderstorms began firing up over the south end of Lake Sam Rayburn, an 18-wheeler was struck by lightning and it set the cab of the truck on fire. It happened at about 3:00 on Recreational Road 255, just west of Sam Rayburn Dam. The Angelina River Fire Department was sent to the scene and a state trooper initially said that heavy smoke was pouring out of the cab of the truck. A few minutes later he said the cab was fully engulfed in flames. The truck was hauling a load of lumber, but firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to the trailer.
