HENDERSON COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - Crews responded to a mobile home fire that left one person and their pets dead on Monday. Responders were called out to a structure fire in Cherokee Shores at about 6:53 a.m., according to a release from Payne Springs Fire Rescue. When they arrived, crews reported seeing a large smoke column rising from a mobile home, with a live power line still arcing in the front yard. Firefighters attempted an interior fire attack and search, but were forced to back out due to the high heat. The rescue said three residents were able to escape, but one person and some pets died. In addition to Payne Springs Fire Rescue, Gun Barrel City Fire, Eustace Fire, Caney City Fire, Log Cabin Fire, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, Henderson County Fire Marshal’s Office, UT Health EMS and the American Red Cross all assisted in responding to the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the fire marshal’s office.
