CHEROKEE COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A man is dead after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 69 near Rusk. According to a preliminary DPS report, on Monday a tractor trailer collided with another vehicle on Hwy. 69 about five miles south of Rusk in Cherokee County killing the driver of the other vehicle. The report states Nicholas Schintgen, 44, of Minnesota, was driving south on US 69 when the crash occured, as was Nelson Terrell, 38, of Houston. According to the report, Terrell was driving a tractor trailer at unsafe speeds for the wet road conditions when he lost control and struck the vehicle driven by Schintgen. Schintgen’s vehicle veered off the west edge of the roadway striking a tree. Schintgen was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is currently available.
