Jack Ward Dymke Sr. “Bucke,” 87, passed away August 15, 2022, surrounded by loved ones.
He was born in Milam County, Texas, on August 4, 1935, to Jessie Louise (Holman) and Ronald Printis Dymke. He spent the bulk of his childhood with his maternal grandparents, Clara (Corbitt) and Joseph Ward Holman, “Compy,” working on and experiencing their farm. Jack attended school in Rockdale, Texas, participating in boxing, football, FFA, and Boys State. He learned from wise mentors and started lifelong friendships while developing the fundamental skills for his vocation as a businessman and civic leader. After his mother married the love of her life, Arnold Morris Mason Sr., Bucke found the man he saw as his father.
On February 12, 1955, the young Jack Dymke finally married his beloved Evva Dene (Johnson) of San Augustine, an older woman of 20. (It’s a long and beautiful story) Anyone can tell you it was the best decision of his life and he loved her intensely. No one thinks of one without the other… and “the two shall become one flesh” (Gen 2:24). They were wed and resided in Galena Park, near Houston.
Their first child, Jack Ward Dymke Jr. aka “Buck-2” was born in October 1956, their second, Jan Leenette, in February 1957, their third, Terri Lynn in March 1961 and the fourth Tina Evette, in April 1967. During those first 10 years, he traveled internationally all around the world selling oilfield supplies for Standco, Inc. He determined he would not renew his passport and they moved north to White Oak, Texas, in 1965 to start O&D Sales and Service and O&D Manufacturing. They built a very successful AMWAY distributorship and White Oak Realty, after selling O&D to their business partner. He ended his working career back in the oil & gas industry working as a landman, pumper, and mentor to many young, upcoming, aspiring roustabouts, roughnecks and production crews.
Jack and Dene were founding members of White Oak United Methodist Church and active community/school volunteers. He coached Little League and Little Dribblers, taught us all to love the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. Jack was a member of the White Oak Lions Club and they served as the Leo Youth sponsors. He transferred his membership to San Augustine Lions Club when they moved to San Augustine some 17 years ago to retire from paid work and come serve the family as their land manager. He was the “Sweetheart of San Augustine County” and he loved you all very much for your warm welcome. This was a beautiful place for him to retire and serve.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Dene; daughter, Jan Hood and husband, Joe, along with their two sons, Jared (wife, Madison and children Avynn, McClane, and JC) and Jackson (wife, Ashley and children Amelia and Banks); daughter, Terri Null and her son, Travis Harris (wife, Katherine and daughters Savannah & Landry); daughter, Tina Moyers and husband, Jeff, along with their two children, Jake and Kristen; sister, Louise King and husband, Ronnie; brother, Arnold Morris Mason, Jr. and wife, Pam; sister-in-law, Grace Mason; sister-in-law, Johnida (Johnson) Evans; brother-in-law, William “Bub” Johnson and wife, Judy. There are also countless special nieces and nephews that call him Uncle Bucke, two God-sons, Ray and Paul Broeder, foreign exchange students, and adopted extras. All have found refuge and love in his home, as well as encouragement in his words. He was a powerful person of influence.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents, as well as, his in-laws, John and Harlowe Johnson, his sister, Billye Tyler, as well as his brothers, Curley Dymke and Joey Mason. He has also experienced the heartache of burying his God-daughter, Kathy, his son, Jack, and his grandson, Justin Harris, well before their time, along with his daughter’s heartache as she buried her husband, Larry Null, just last year. He was no stranger to the hard things of life, but we believe they all welcomed him home to heaven and are rejoicing with him now around the throne of Jesus!
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 18, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church, 205 S. Liberty Street in San Augustine. Interment will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity, San Augustine’s First United Methodist Church, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
