The Newman Greenies held scoreless by the Tigers defense for almost 15 minutes into the game, came back to defeat the Tigers 49-31 last Friday night in New Orleans.
The Tigers would start the scoring for the night on a 5 yard td run by Tylen Singleton,Deacon LaFollette pat for a 7-0 lead with 9:50 remaining in the first quarter. Tigers recovered a Newman fumble at the 23 to set up the short scoring drive.
Tigers defense forced a Newman punt and the Tigers in good field position at midfield. The Tigers offense ran off 6:19 on the drive, but the Tigers would have to settle for a 26 yard field goal by LaFollette , 10-0 , with 1:15 left in the first quarter.
The Greenies got on the scoreboard on a 25 yard touchdown with 10:25 left. The Tigers would strike back quickly as QB Hayden Evans connected with Singleton for a 84 touchdown pass as the Tigers increased their lead to 17-7, 9:04 remaining in the second quarter.
The Greenies would then score 4 touchdowns , 33,23, and 14 to go 28-17 at the half.
The Tigers missed cutting into the greenies lead, but LaFollette missed wide left on a 39 field goal attempt with 5:48 left in the third quarter.
Newman scored from 66 and 42 yards out and build their lead to 42-17, 11:26 left in the game. They would complete their scoring on the night on a 37 yard touchdown, their lead now,49-17, 8:25 remaining in the game.
But the Tigers, continue the scoring as James rambled down the sideline for a 71 yard touchdown, LaFollette pat was good to cut into the lead at 49-24,7:44 left in the game.
The Tigers would conclude the scoring on the night as Evans connected with wide receiver Trevor McClendon for a 48 yard touchdown pass. McClendon made the catch at about the 10 and cruised into the end zone, 49-31 , but only :44 remaining in the game. The Tigers record stands at 2-2, a bye week this week for the Tigers, return to action at home with a district game against Mansfield, also homecoming night.
