ZAVALLA, Texas (KTRE) - Zavalla ISD has announced classes will not be held on Monday due to lack of water, after the City of Zavalla Public Water System reported a leak. Zavalla issued a boil notice on Sunday due to a water leak that caused the system to lose pressure. The city has said they are working to fix the issue promptly. The ISD has also cancelled classes for Monday due to the water issues. The administration said they will release updates in coordination with city officials. The boil water notice affects the area west of FM 2109, north and south of Highway 63 East, and along Highway 69. See the map below. All customers should boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc.). Children, seniors and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria. To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source. When boiling is no longer necessary, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for human consumption purposes.
