Bealls, which was once open in Jasper, is looking to make a return. The store opened under the Bealls name in September of 1998 and then rebranded to Stage before it closed officially in October of 2001. The Bealls Company, under their parent company Stage, liquidated after filing for bankruptcy in 2020.
Work has begun on the space in the Brookshire Brothers Shopping Center at the corner of Highways 96 and 190. Workers have the doors open and are doing various things to the interior of the building like breaking up concrete in preparation for the final finish out and reopening of the store, which will again be called Bealls.
The Jasper Economic Development Corporation, which has invested in the store opening, was recently told that the new Bealls Store was on track to open in November. Bealls has committed to having at least 18 employees for a period of at least five years.
