A woman sustained serious injuries when she struck an 18 wheeler head-on while traveling the wrong way on Interstate 10 East in Vidor, according to information DPS Lt. Chuck Havard provided to KFDM/Fox 4 News.
The DPS says Meagan Lonion, 26, of Bridge City, was traveling east on I-10 at about 3:15 a.m. Thursday when she entered the westbound lane at the Doty exit ramp.
She struck the second trailer of a Kenworth truck tractor towing double trailers about one mile east of FM 1132.
She was taken by ambulance to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital with serious injuries and was in surgery when we checked Thursday morning.
The truck driver, 32-year-old Jared Dudley of Houston, was also hurt and taken to CHRISTUS.
The impact of the crash knocked the axle out of the trailer.
One lane of I-10 East remained open while troopers closed the other lanes to investigate and clear away the wreckage.
The highway fully reopened by late Thursday morning.
(DPS) The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a crash involving a commercial motor vehicle on Interstate 10 approximately one mile east of Farm-to-Market Road 1132 this morning, Jan. 13, 2022.
The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 3:15 a.m., a 2019 Kenworth truck tractor towing double trailers was traveling west. A 2021 Toyota SUV was traveling east and, for an unknown reason at this time, entered the westbound lane at the Doty exit ramp. The Toyota struck the second trailer on its left side.
The driver of the truck tractor semi-trailer, identified as 32-year-old Jared Dudley of Houston, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the SUV, identified as 26-year-old Meagan Lonion of Bridge City, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information at this time.
