SHREVEPORT, La.  Shreveport police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run after the body of a woman was found early Saturday in a vacant parking lot.

Officers were called to the 2100 block of Laurel Street around 6 a.m. where they discovered the woman with visible signs of trauma. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Caddo Parish Coroner's Office has identified her as Rosalind Jordan, 70.

Preliminary evidence indicates the victim had been walking westbound along Laurel Street when she was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling in the same direction, police said.

The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office responded and took custody of the remains.

“This is a heartbreaking and senseless tragedy,” Police Chief Wayne Smith said in a statement. “We need the community’s help to bring answers and accountability.”

Investigators are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
