Woman injured in Thursday morning crash as searchers look for body in river

Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark says troopers investigated a major accident early Thursday morning which left a woman in extremely critical condition. Sergeant Clark said it happened at about 12:30 Thursday morning on the Highway 96 bridge over the Neches River at the Jasper/Hardin County line. According to Clark, 49-year-old Dana Kendrick was driving a 2014 Dodge pickup truck northbound when the truck hit the guardrail and then rolled over multiple times, ejecting Kendrick from the truck. At last word she was undergoing treatment at St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Meanwhile, the Jasper County Emergency Corps was called out to the Neches River below the bridge late Thursday afternoon. Jasper County Deputy Karli Cherry said it was learned that there was possibly a second person in the truck who may have also been ejected and went over the side of the bridge and down to the river below. Members of the Corps, along with Game Wardens and the Evadale Fire Department searched unit just after dark and suspended the search with plans of returning Friday morning with more boats and possibly an aerial drone. Corps President Billy Williford said flood waters and heavy currents were hampering the search which is now focusing on the area downstream of the bridge.
