Winnfield police investigating apparent murder-suicide that left two people dead

WINNFIELD, La. (KNOE) - The Winnfield Police Department is investigating a suspected murder-suicide that happened on the evening of Wednesday, May 1. WPD says it has been ruled a man shot several times at a 20-year-old woman and killed her before shooting himself. Interviews with family and close acquaintances have not led to a clear motive for the incident. The two people involved are from the Winnfield and Natchitoches areas. Winnfield Chief of Police Jonny Carpenter says the department’s heart goes out the impacted friends and family. “Our hearts go out to these families and friends,” Carpenter says. “This has affected an entire community for such a senseless tragedy to these young people who had their whole lives ahead of them.” This is an ongoing investigation.
