Wind gusted up to 45mph at KJAS, resulted in downed power lines

Heavy wind ahead of a line of thunderstorms blew through the Jasper area on Wednesday afternoon and resulted in at least two power lines to fall. Here at KJAS, we recorded a peak wind gust of 45 miles-per-hour out of the north-northwest at 3:32. The wind and clouds also resulted in a rapid temperature drop from 97° down to 84°. Shortly thereafter, reports started coming in about downed power lines. The Angelina River Fire Department was sent to the intersection of County Roads 31 and 32 where it was reported that a tree and power lines were down and had started a brush fire. The East End Fire Department reported power lines down on Highway 63 East at County Road 277. The Jasper Fire Department was sent to a report of a tree that had fallen across power lines in the 800 block of Denton Drive. The Lake Rayburn Fire Department was sent to the 600 block of County Road 231 where it was reported that power lines were down and had caused a woods fire.
