This fall, the 2020-21 school year could look different for students in Vernon Parish.
Recently, a committee made up of teachers and administrators met to discuss what student's schedules will look like this school year. The committee discussed whether students should have an "A" and a "B" week. This means students would attend certain classes on certain days, rather than going to all seven periods in one day. The committee also discussed whether students should spend a few days of the week at home learning online.
"Do we have the students come one day and do virtual the next day," Renita Page, the secondary curriculum director asked. "We're trying to figure out what's best for our students, [and] for our teachers."
When Leesville High School's principal Mark Mawae was asked, which two plans did he like the best he responded:
"One of them had half of our students there half the time. The other one was a block schedule and they were alternating half our students. But again, there's nothing solid in either one of them because it might change in two weeks. It might change in a month, and we might have to just throw it out the window."
The school district’s administrators say a lot of this will depend on where the state is at with Governor Edwards’s reopening plan this coming August.
