VERNON PARISH, La. (KPLC) - The Vernon Parish School Board is joining the state’s lawsuit against the recent changes to Title IX. On May 2, the school board voted 11-0 to oppose the new federal revisions to Title IX, which will take effect Aug. 1. The revisions guarantee LGBTQ students legal protections from discrimination based on sex or gender identity, among other changes. Vernon Parish is now part of a growing list of school boards around the state to join the litigation. The school board wrote it believes the changes “will increase its obligations, compliance costs, and liability risks,” and will be “detrimental to students, parents, and employees.”
