A Vernon Parish man accused of assaulting a Deputy with a machete has entered a plea of guilty.
On Sunday, October 3, 2021, The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office was attempting to serve an outstanding warrant to Malcom Holcomb, 46, of Leesville. At approximately 5:30 PM, deputies arrived at the residence on Norris Kay Road and an area bondsman was there to revoke a bond.
According to reports, Deputies made contact with Holcomb and he then wielded a machete and made threats to the deputies. One of the deputies and the bondsman deployed tasers on Holcomb in an effort to get him to drop the weapon but he continued to come toward them while making stabbing motions with the machete.
One of the deputies was hit with the machete in the left rib area. As a result the deputy then fired two rounds from his duty weapon striking Holcomb twice. First aid was rendered to Holcomb immediately following the incident. According to reports the Deputy suffered minor injuries.
Holcomb was arrested and booked for attempted first-degree murder, one count of aggravated assault on a police officer, one count of resisting by force and one count of aggravated assault.
Last week Holcomb went before the Honorable Judge Tony Bennett and entered a plea of guilty on the charge of one count of attempted first degree murder. At this time, he is facing a maximum sentence of 30 years in jail. Sentencing is set for a later date.
