The U.S. Coast Guard rescued nine workers trapped on an oil rig which caught on fire Thursday in Port Arthur. It happened at Port City Partners Marine Yard, located on the Sabine/Neches Waterway.
The Coast Guard out of Sabine Pass along with the Port Arthur Fire Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department responded to the incident.
Local officials said that the oil rig was out-of-service and was onshore being scrapped and prepared for demolition when the blaze occurred.
There were no reports of any injuries, and exactly how the fire began is unknown.
