Emergency responders were on the scene of a single-vehicle accident between Jasper and Kirbyville late Thursday morning. It happened at about 11:30 on Highway 96 near County Road 497. According to Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark, 47-year-old Anthony Bowman, of Orange, was driving a 2017 Chevrolet pickup truck southbound when his driver side front tire blew out. The truck went off the southbound lanes, through the grass median, across the northbound lanes, and then collided head-on with a tree on the east side of the highway. Despite serious damage to the truck and obvious visible injuries, Sergeant Clark said Bowman refused treatment.
