One person was reported to have only minor injuries following a two-vehicle auto accident that occurred in the north end of Jasper County on Friday evening. The volunteers of the Lake Rayburn Fire Department, along with other emergency crews were dispatched to the location on Highway 96, not far from the entrance to the Lakeland Addition, shortly after 6:00 when it was reported that the crash had occurred. DPS Sergeant Shana Clark said a 2O19 Nissan SUV was southbound and was followed by a 1994 Chevrolet pickup, while a 2013 Kia passenger car was northbound. Clark said the driver of the driver of the Chevrolet tried to pass the Nissan, but did so unsafely and struck the front left portion of the Kia and the rear left portion of the Nissan. Clark said the Chevrolet then went off the highway and overturned. Clark said the Nissan was driven by Diana Askew, 53, and her passenger was, Kenneth Askew, 54, both of Buna. She identified the driver of the Chevrolet as Daniel Wright, 42, of Brookeland, who received a citation for Fail to Pass to the Left Safely. Clark said the driver of the Kia was Leonarda Chavez, 20, of Pineland. Traffic on Highway 96 was blocked off and on for some time until workers could remove the wreckage from the roadway.
