The Texas Department of Public Safety has released information regarding an early Tuesday morning crash involving a log truck, a car, and a house. It happened shortly after 4:00 on Highway 96 near County Road 594, just south of Kirbyville. According to DPS Sergeant Shana Clark, a 2010 Toyota Corolla driven by Hyrum Ratcliff, 21, of Jasper, was traveling southbound behind a log truck, driven by Richard Dailey, 56, of San Augustine. Clark said Ratcliff failed to control his speed and hit the back of the log truck, and his car then veered off the highway and crashed into a vacant house. Ratcliff was flown by medical helicopter to St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. His injuries were later said to be non-life threatening. Clark said Daily was not injured.
